How many sessions will I need?
Every person is different, so the number of sessions can vary depending on your goals and the nature of what you're experiencing. A typical course of CBT lasts between 10 and 20 sessions, but some people may need fewer, and others a little longer — especially if working with more complex or long-standing difficulties. We'll review your progress together and adjust as needed to make sure therapy is working for you.
Do the sessions have to be weekly?
Weekly sessions are usually recommended, especially at the start, as they help build momentum and allow you to apply new strategies between sessions. That said, therapy should work with your life — so we can discuss what frequency suits you best and adapt as we go.
When will I start to feel better?
Everyone’s journey is different. Some people notice shifts within a few sessions, while for others it takes longer — especially if difficulties have been around for a while. CBT gives you tools to make meaningful changes, but it’s a process. Together, we’ll go at a pace that feels manageable and effective for you.
How is talking going to help?
CBT isn’t just talking — it’s a structured, collaborative process that helps you understand what’s keeping you stuck and develop tools to move forward. It does involve talking, but also reflection, learning new strategies, and applying them between sessions. Progress depends not just on what happens in therapy, but on your willingness to engage, be open, and take an active role in your own change.
Is online therapy effective?
Yes, online CBT has been shown to be just as effective as face-to-face therapy for many people. It also offers flexibility and privacy, allowing you to access therapy from a space that feels comfortable for you. I use Microsoft Teams for all appointments, which is secure and easy to use.
Is everything I say confidential?
Yes, everything we discuss is confidential. The only exceptions are if I’m concerned about serious risk to you or someone else — in which case I will always aim to speak to you about it first, wherever possible. More details about confidentiality are included in the therapy agreement.
Can I stop therapy whenever I want?
Absolutely — therapy is always your choice. You're under no obligation to continue, though I encourage clients to talk through their decision so we can plan a helpful ending if needed.
Do you offer therapy for children or teens?
At this time, I work with adults aged 18 and over.
